Mason Horner recognized as 2024-25 Most Valuable Choctaw

Dyer County High School’s Mason Horner has been named the 2024-2025 Most Valuable Choctaw following a ceremony held Thursday, October 24, in the Little Theatre. The ceremony welcomed faculty, family members, and fellow students.

Horner was among five students nominated for the honor including Cate Evans, Clark French, Anna Hampton, Mason Horner, Aubrey Lehmann, and Robert Straile.

Horner is the son of Jason and Ashley Horner. He is in the top 10% of his class, a member of the National Honor Society, the ACT Elite Club (35), Beta Club, Varsity Football, Coed Cheer, Student Council (Sr. Class President), Student Athlete Leadership Team, and the Leo Club.

Horner is also a member of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, Dyer County Youth Leadership, his church’s youth group, and the Dyer County Special Olympics. He volunteers his time taking care of the lawn for Good Hope Cemetery and volunteers to help his church’s toy and clothing drive. He also operates audio/visual equipment during church services.

After graduation, Horner plans to attend Murray State University where he will pursue a degree in electrical engineering, with the possibility of also double majoring in mechanical engineering.

Horner was recognized during the ceremony by DCHS educator Susan Campbell.

The ceremony began with welcome words from Senior Class Vice President and National Honor Society President Ellie Chandler.

A Presentation of Colors was led by the Dyer County High School JROTC, followed by the National Anthem, performed by Evie Fuller.

The invocation was led by National Honors Society Vice President Lily Flagg.

This year’s guest speaker was former DCHS student Gunner Garner.
