Trojans blank Scotts Hill 41-0 as Dyersburg moves to 5-3

After a tough Region loss to Westview, the Trojans had a week to prepare for the Lions of Scotts Hill. The week off proved to benefit Dyersburg, as they pounced the Lions 41-0 for the Homecoming 2024 victory at J.C. Sawyers Stadium on Friday night.

The Lions got the ball to start the game at their own 20. Three negative plays forced the Lions to punt, which gave Dyersburg the ball at the Scotts Hill 43-yard line. A fumble on the first play gave the ball back to the Lions at their own 30, however they once again went backwards on the drive and was forced to punt to Ty Seaton and was taken to the Trojans 43. Necari Hall took a handoff on the first play 17 yards. On third and 2, a handoff to Peyton Hill gained four for a first down. Five plays later, Hall took a handoff three yards for a Trojans touchdown. The extra point by Elian Gonzalez was good, making the score 7-0 Trojans.

Zachary Grissom took the ensuing kickoff to the Scotts Hill 10-yard line. On third and 16, Lions quarterback Parker Savage threw an interception to Quincy Terry, Jr. that went the distance for a Dyersburg score. The extra point was good, extending the Trojan lead to 14-0.

The Lions got the ball at their own 20, and gained 28 on a pass from Patrick Lewis on third and 10. Lewis took a quarterback keeper the next play seven yards. On third and 4, a handoff to Jaxxon Wallace went six yards for a Lions first down. A second down sack by Breyden Turnage made it 3rd and 9 for the Lions. An incomplete pass made it fourth and 9 and led to a punt to Seaton. The Trojans got the ball at their own 18. Hill took a handoff on the opening play all the way for a Dyersburg touchdown. The extra point was good, making the score 21-0 Trojans.

Scotts Hill took the ensuing kickoff to their own 31. Three negative plays resulted in a punt for the Lions. Dyersburg got the ball at their own 43. The Trojans were able to get down inside the 15 in just five plays. On third and 1 from the 5-yard line, a quarterback sneak by Logston Morgan got the Trojans down to the one. On the next play, a handoff to Jaden Harris got the Trojans into the end zone. The extra point was good, making it 28-0 Dyersburg.

The Lions got the ensuing kickoff at their own 20 after a touchback by Gonzalez. A sack by Isaiah Thomas made it second and 17, and a penalty made it second and 22. On third and 27, a fumble in the end zone was recovered by Logan Frazier for a Trojans score. The extra point was no good, making the score 34-0.

Scotts Hill got the ball at their own 38 to start their next drive. A pass on second and 11 was intercepted by Santavion Williams and was returned for a Trojans touchdown. The extra point by Jackson Duggan was good, extending the Trojan lead to 41-0.

The Lions took the ensuing kickoff to the Trojans 42. A few good plays got Scotts Hill down to the Dyersburg 27, with time for one play before the half, and Alex Wallace lined up for a 43 yard field goal that came up short and ended the first half, with the Trojans up 41-0.

Dyersburg got the ball down to the Lions 43-yard line to start the second half. On 2nd and long, a fumble gave the ball to Scotts Hill at their own 42. A handoff to Wallace got to the Trojans 44, and a penalty moved the Lions down to the 29. A fourth and 10 pass from Lewis to Rocky Jones was able to pick up a Lions first down, which ended the third quarter. A second down pass by Lewis was intercepted by Aden Morgan, which gave Dyersburg the ball at their own 28. A toss to Cortez Barbee went 22 yards to the 50 yard line, and a penalty moved the ball down to the Lions 33, and the Trojans were able to run out the clock on the game with the final score 41-0.

After the game, head coach Bart Stowe said he was “proud of our overall effort on all three phases of the game. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams all showed up and won the game. I am really proud of how we bounced back after we lost to Westview.” Stowe also said the team is going to enjoy this win, but prepare for another region opponent on a shorter week. Dyersburg will take on Liberty Tech Thursday, Oct 24 at Historic J.C. Sawyers Stadium.
