DSCC hosted prestigious TBR quarterly board meeting

Dyersburg, Tennessee—Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) was honored to partner with Tennessee College of Applied Technology Northwest (TCAT Northwest) and Tennessee College of Applied Technology Henry/Carroll (TCAT Henry/Carroll) to host the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Quarterly Board Meeting from September 19 through September 20.

This significant gathering brought esteemed education leaders from across the state to the DSCC campus for meetings, tours, and discussions to enhance the quality and accessibility of higher education in Tennessee.

The two-day event began with a range of activities on day one, including complimentary breakfast, registration at the DSCC Student Center, an exclusive tour of the TCAT Northwest campus, and committee meetings. Furthermore, the DSCC campus was showcased through guided tours, offering visitors a closer look at the college’s facilities and programs.

A formal dinner was held at the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the DSCC campus to conclude day one. The event started with a warm welcome and insightful remarks from Dyersburg State President Scott Cook, followed by remarks from Dr. Flora Tydings, the Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents. The dinner provided a pleasant setting for discussions and camaraderie, accompanied by performances from the Paducah Symphony. Dr. Amanda Walker, the Vice President of External Affairs at Dyersburg State Community College, recognized and thanked the sponsors with a special presentation to Herff Jones as the Chancellor Level Sponsor. The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Scott Cook, highlighting the community's gratitude and aspirations for nurturing a brighter future through education.

The event's second day included presentations by distinguished speakers such as Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State Community College; Mr. John Penn Ridgeway, President of TCAT Henry/Carroll; and Dr. Youlanda Jones, President of TCAT Northwest. These sessions provided invaluable insights into the future of Tennessee's technical and community college education.

Following the speaker presentations, the TBR quarterly meetings began at 9:30 a.m. in the FCNB Auditorium. These meetings were a critical component of the event, designed to facilitate in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics pertinent to the advancement of higher education in the state.

Reflecting on the significance of the meeting, Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State Community College, stated, "Dyersburg State was honored to host the 2024 September Quarterly Board Meeting of the Tennessee Board of Regents, which brings together leaders and staff from the College System of Tennessee and community and technical colleges from across the state. In addition to conducting business on the Board, hosting the meeting represents an incredible opportunity to collaborate with peers and showcase the incredible work that our employees at Dyersburg State accomplish every day.
