Historical Society to preview Ken Burns documentary on da Vinci

The Historical Society is getting a preview screening of award winning Ken Burns’s new PBS documentary about Leonardo da Vinci. Tuesday, October 22, 5 p.m., at the Professional Development Center in Dyersburg.

The Dyer County Historical Society is partnering with West Tennessee PBS to provide a special a special preview screening of a documentary about Leonardo da Vinci by Ken Burns The screening will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 5 p.m., at the Professional Development Center. The PDC is home to the Dyer County Museum and is located at 305 College Street in downtown Dyersburg.

Ken Burns, famous for films such as “Baseball”, "The Civil War” and “The American Revolution,“ will debut his film “Leonardo Da Vinci: Artist, Inventor, Scientist, Philosopher, Anatomist, Engineer, Genus.” The two night, four hour, film will air on November 18th and 19th on PBS.

This film will tell the story of Leonardo da Vinci, a fifteenth century Italian polymath of soaring imagination and profound intellect, who left behind artistic works of staggering beauty and detailed sketches of futuristic contraptions of warfare and flight that today are marveled at for their technical ingenuity and foresight.

The preview at the PDC will highlight parts of each evening’s program. The West Tennessee PBS board will meet at the PDC at 4:30 p.m. to conduct business. Additionally, there will be a reception for PBS sponsors, contributors and viewers starting at 5 p.m.. This preview is open to the public and it gives local citizens the opportunity to visit with the leaders of our West Tennessee PBS and learn about their operation, programming and opportunities while seeing the exhibits that are on display in the Dyer County Museum.
