Northview volleyball sweeps through pool play, enters winner’s bracket as top seed
On the strength of a trio of sweeps in pool play on Thursday in Brentwood, Northview’s volleyball team is two wins away from a state championship as the Lady Choctaws will enter Friday’s bracket play as the top seed in the winner’s bracket of the TMSAA Class A State Tournament.
Northview got its opening day of pool play underway on Thursday at Brentwood High with a two-set win over West Greene in the auxiliary gymnasium. The Lady Choctaws won the first set 25-22 then took the second 25-15.
The Lady Choctaws then moved to the main gym where Northview handed Battle Creek a 2-0 loss to stay unbeaten. The Lady Choctaws took the first set 25-19 then claimed the second by a 25-13 score to move to 2-0 on the day.
Northview wrapped up pool play with a two-set win over Sale Creek. The Lady Choctaws won the first set 25-13 then cruised in the second set 25-11 to claim the match and end pool play unbeaten.
Northview (the winners of Pool A) moves into the winner’s bracket where they will face South Lawrence (2-1, the second place team from Pool B) in the state semifinals at 11:30 a.m. in the main gymnasium at Brentwood High School on Friday. The other semifinal sees Pool B winner and the only other undefeated team in the tournament, Charlotte, taking on West Greene (2-1) at 11:30 a.m. at Brentwood Middle School. Both the championship game and third-place consolation game will be played at 2:30 p.m. Championship action between the semifinal winners will be played in the Brentwood High School main gymnasium while the consolation will take place at Brentwood Middle School.
