SPECIAL TO THE STATE GAZETTE

Dyer County High School Senior Macey Armstrong has been selected for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award for the Class of 2025.

The Good Citizen Award is designed to encourage and reward students who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities and is open to all students enrolled at an accredited public or private secondary school. Students selected for this coveted award must exhibit dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, according to Penny Switzer and Sonja Tucker, Key Corner NSDAR Good Citizens Committee co-chairs.

Armstrong’s leadership is highlighted by her service on Student Council, Prom Committee co-chair, and participation in the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy and Dyer County Youth Leadership. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, cheers for the football team and is captain of the Dance Team.

A HOSA state finalist, she is secretary of the school club. During Dyer County Fair Week, she stays busy working in the Youth Department and assisting with the younger division beauty pageants.

Additionally, Armstrong is a member of the Dance Team, the Student Athlete Leadership Team, Football Cheer Team, and the Choc-Talk Broadcasting Club. She also serves as editor of the school yearbook staff.

“Selfless service is an important act to build a positive community,” Armstrong states. “Helping others allows me to remove the focus from myself and become award of the needs of those around me.”

Key Corner Chapter NSDAR will honor the six area Good Citizen Award winners at their March 2025 meeting according to Regent Laura McCulloch who states, “We look forward to celebrating these stellar youth leaders of today and community leaders of tomorrow.”

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
