The next meeting of the Dyer County Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. Bill Ables, historical society board member, will demonstrate ways he uses online search engines to capture stories, images and documents that help the society tell about Dyer County history.

Members and the public are invited to attend and hear how one board member finds obscure things about the county in which we live. You’ll learn about Sanborn maps of Dyersburg, old photos and documents from schools, businesses and churches and ways to follow leads that may help you better understand the history of Dyer County, Tennessee.

The meeting takes place at the Professional Development Center, 305 College Street in downtown Dyersburg.

The society manages a Facebook page that is open to the world and a Facebook group requires prospective members to answer a questionnaire. Additionally, the society maintains a web site at www.dyerhistory.org. While many of the items that the society has in its collection are hard copies of original artifacts, some items are only available through internet searches.
