Dyer County Administrator of Elections Anita Fowlkes said this week that the commission expects around 69% of registered voters in the county to vote in this year’s presidential election. With 22,500 registered voters in the county, that means roughly 15,500 residents will be voting in Dyer County.

Of the number of those voting, Fowlkes remarked 70% will cast their votes early.

“Four years ago,” she stated, “67% of registered voters in the county voted in the presidential election.” This is 1% above the nationwide percentage of, according to the Pew Research Center, totaled 66% of registered voters. She also said that statewide, this county’s percentages align with those of other counties.

She stated, “As a general rule, there’s a big difference in presidential elections and any other elections. There are a lot of voters in Dyer County who only vote every four years.”

Fowlkes said, “We really encourage voters to vote early. That way they can pick a day convenient for them,” and she cautioned, “You never know what could come up on election day.”

Residents can vote on election day, November 5, at their regular precincts.

October 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the November election. Eligible residents can register at the Election Commission office at 113 West Market Street, Dyersburg. They can also register when they get their licenses at the Department of Safety (driver’s license centers). Those with licenses and signatures on file with the Department of Safety can register at www.govotetn.gov

Early voting occurs October 16-31, M-F 8:30-4:30 and from 9am to noon on Saturdays, at the Election Commission office.
