Northview remains unbeaten, takes WTAC title

After an unbeaten regular season, the Northview Lady Choctaw volleyball team continued its winning ways as it entered the postseason, defeating rival Three Oaks for the West Tennessee Athletic Conference Class A Tournament Championship on Tuesday evening at Halls.

The Lady Choctaws had a bye in Monday's opening round of the tournament before defeating Halls in the semifinals before defeating Halls in straight sets in the first semifinal game on Tuesday. Northview took the first set 25-7 then claimed the match with a 25-9 win in the second set.

Meanwhile, the Three Oaks Lady Choctaws also found themselves in the semifinals after a two-set win over Humboldt on Monday in the quarterfinals. On Tuesday, Three Oaks took the first set of the semifinals against Lake County, 25-14, then handed the Lady Falcons a 25-12 loss in the second set to take the match and set up an all-Lady Choctaw championship game.

In the finals, the Lady Choctaws from Newbern took the opening set 25-20 before Three Oaks rallied for a 25-20 win in the second set. However, Northview came out strong in the third set with a 15-3 win to take the match and the WTAC Championship.

Both teams advance to the TMSAA Class A Section 7 Volleyball Tournament which begins on Wednesday at Northview Middle School.

Three Oaks opens the tournament on Wednesday in the play-in game as the Lady Choctaws from Upper Finley Road take on North Parkway at 5 p.m. at Three Oaks.

Seven players and one head coach from Northview and Three Oaks were honored with WTAC individual awards following the tournament championship game on Tuesday in Halls. Members of the two programs honored with All-Tournament selections were (from left) Elysse Joy (WTAC Coach of the Year, NMS), Lynlee Young (NMS), Adalyn Harrison (NMS), Maelynn McCrary (TOMS), Macy Seaton (TOMS), Molly Davis (TOMS), Kate Benedetto (WTAC Tournament Most Valuable Player (NMS), and Laney Gibbons (NMS).

The semifinals continue on Thursday at Northview as the Lady Choctaws from Newbern take on Community Montessori at 5 p.m. in the first semifinal. Following that game, the winner of Wednesday's play-in game takes on Inman at 6 p.m. The winners of the two semifinals will then meet in the sectional championship game at 7 p.m. with the winner punching their ticket to the TMSAA Class A State Tournament.
