With the regular season winding down and seeding for the upcoming District 13AA Tournament on the line on Tuesday night in Dyersburg, the Lady Trojans fell to Crockett County in five sets in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.

“We've got to learn how to push through and finish,” Dyersburg Head Coach De'Licia Ahmad said. “And stay strong throughout the whole game.”

With the match tied at two sets each and heading into the final fifth set, the Lady Trojans fell behind early before a well-place Preslee Quertermous return helped Dyersburg rally to tie the game at 4-4. After a Lady Cavalier point, the Lady Trojans appeared to tie the game before a jump ball was called. Dyersburg then tied the match and took the lead with a Taniyah Brooks kill. The Lady Trojans got a Kalli Maclin kill and a Murphy Morgan block to build their lead to 11-8.

Crockett County battled back in spite of a late Quertermous kill which broke a 13-13 tie and put the Lady Trojans at set point. But, Dyersburg was unable to get the all-important 15th point as the Lady Cavaliers scored three straight to take the set and the match by a 16-14 score.

With the schedule winding down and just a couple district games remaining, Dyersburg could very well see the Lady Cavaliers again in the 13AA Tournament in October.

“We're getting closer and closer to beating them,” Ahmad explained. “The first time we lost in four sets. This time it was five. Hopefully, next time it'll be a win.”

Dyersburg had fell behind early, but was able to rally thanks to kills from Maclin. After cutting the deficit to 20-17, the Lady Trojans rallied to not only catch Crockett County but take the lead at 24-22. The Lady Cavaliers battled back to tie the game at 24-24 before a Gatlin kill put Dyersburg at set point. However, Crockett County was able to tie the game on two more occasions before a Gatlin kill put the black and gold in front to lead to the 28-26 win in the opening set.

Crockett County rallied to take the second set 25-14 then Dyersburg picked up the second set with a 25-17 win. The Lady Cavaliers evened the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth to force the deciding fifth frame.

The Lady Trojans were able to bounce back in District 13AA play two nights later, defeating Westview in three sets to stay on pace for a higher seed in the upcoming tournament.

Dyersburg took the first set 25-17 then won the final two with matching 25-13 wins in the final two sets.

The Lady Trojans return to action on Monday when Dyersburg travels to South Side in Jackson at 6 p.m.
