Candidates qualify for office in Newbern, Trimble

The Dyer County Election Commission released a list of candidates who have qualified for the aldermen/alderwomen and mayor contests in Newbern and Trimble. In Trimble, only three have qualified for the five alderman positions.

According to Dyer County Election Administrator Anita Fowlkes, “Trimble will elect one mayor, and they have five positions open for alderman, [but] only 3 candidates picked up and qualified…[The Trimble Board of Mayor and Aldermen] will have to appoint the other two vacant seats after the election.” Fowlkes noted that the three candidates for Trimble alderman will only need to vote for themselves to be elected.

Candidates who qualified in Trimble:

Ben Sturdivant, mayor

Charles Benjamin, alderman

Don B. Byrd, alderman

Heather McFarland, alderwoman

Newbern however has four candidates for the three aldermen seats up for grabs. Fowlkes stated, “Newbern will elect one mayor and three alderman positions. [T]he top three vote getters of the four who qualified will be elected to serve.”

Candidates who qualified in Newbern:

Pam Mabry, mayor

Chad Cunningham, alderman

Nicky Evans Thomas, alderwoman

Randy Wolf, alderman

W. Harold Wright, alderman

Early Voting for these as well as for the November General Election will be October 16-31, at the Election Office, 13 West Market Street, Dyersburg. Hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.”
