Though Dyersburg was able to jump out to a two-set lead in their match against visiting Lexington on Thursday night in the Terry Glover Gymnasium, the Lady Trojans had to fight for the all-important third-set win before defeating the Lady Tigers in four sets.

The win snaps a four game losing streak by the Lady Trojans which Head Coach Delicia Ahmad hopes will build the players' confidence up heading into a tough week next week. The first-year head coach also hopes the victory can lead to more success moving forward.

Dyersburg was able take the first set handily, winning 25-14 over the Lady Tigers to go up 1-0. Lexington began to play tougher in the second set as the black and red rallied before falling to Dyersburg 25-19 as the Lady Trojans took a 2-0 set lead.

However, in the third set, the Lady Tigers led late only to have the Lady Trojans rally to take a 24-23 lead. But, Lexington rallied with three straight points to take the third set 26-24 and prolong the match.

Dyersburg answered with a quick 4-0 lead in the fourth set. Though things got tight moments later, the Lady Trojans had one more rally as Dyersburg answered back to take the fourth set 25-23 and claim the match.

“We have a problem with sometimes about waiting until the last minute,” Ahmad added. “I am glad we came out swinging in the last set.”

Dyersburg had opened the season 4-0 before dropping matches to Gibson County, Dyer County, and Crockett County. All three teams played in the TSSAA State Tournament last year.

Getting the final point as Kali Maclin's return found the floor brought the skid to an end.

“She's one of our go-to girls so I wasn't expecting them to get the ball to anyone else,” Ahmad said of Maclin.

Dyersburg has three road games next week including trips to South Gibson (Monday) and Dyer County (Thursday) in District 13AA play.

“We've got a tough week next week so we just need to continue to play our game,” the Lady Trojan head coach said.

Dyersburg travels to Medina on Monday for the first of three games in four days at 6 p.m.
