Back to school, Back to giving: Establish a routine for donating blood

Friday, August 30, 2024

Since the school year has kicked off and routines have started to stabilize, it’s the perfect time to consider incorporating blood donation into your schedule. Amidst the flurry of school commitments and extracurricular activities, making a regular commitment to donate blood can be a meaningful way to contribute to your community and save lives.

With schools back in session and families returning to their regular rhythms, it’s a prime opportunity to establish a routine that includes blood donation. LIFELINE Blood Services is in need of regular donors to maintain a steady supply of this vital resource. Regular donations help ensure that blood is available for patients in emergencies, surgeries, and ongoing treatments in the 21 counties we serve.

Creating a donation schedule is simpler than it might seem. Start by checking the mobile blood drive schedule that LIFELINE shares on their website: lifelinebloodserv.org/drive-calendar. LIFELINE offers a convenient schedule as well as weekend hours to accommodate busy schedules. You can plan your donations around school events, work commitments, or other activities, ensuring that it fits seamlessly into your routine. You will find that donating blood actually takes less time than you’d think: 30 to 45 minutes from start to finish.

To make this process even easier, consider setting reminders on your calendar or phone. Mark specific dates for your donations and treat them as important appointments. This will help you stay on track and ensure you do not miss a chance to contribute. You are eligible to donate blood every 8 weeks or 56 days.

By integrating blood donation into your regular schedule, you are not only making a difference but also setting a positive example for your community. It is a simple yet powerful way to give back, and your consistent effort can have a profound impact on those in need. As you find your groove this school year, remember that a small commitment of your time can save lives. Make blood donation a part of your routine and be a hero in your community.

The Dyersburg LIFELINE Center is located at 1130 HWY 51 Bypass Suite 19 and 20. It is open Sunday through Tuesday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. On Saturday and Wednesday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The Center is closed on Thursday and Friday. Walk-ins are always welcome for blood donations.
