With the Fourth of July holiday in their rear-view mirror, football teams from across the state of Tennessee returned to the practice fields on Monday to begin their work for the 2024 regular season.

Among those in West Tennessee returning to the field to prepare for the season-opening games in late August are both Dyer County and Dyersburg, who hit the preseason trail on Monday.

The Trojans, defending Region 7-3A Champions, were the first to return to the field as Dyersburg held its workouts this week in the mornings.

Dyersburg will be in helmets and shorts for the next two weeks then transition into helmets and shoulder pads. The Trojans will then acclimate into full pad practice as the calendar turns to August.

The Trojans will see their first live-action scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 2 when Dyersburg travels to Lexington. The following Friday, Aug. 9, Dyersburg will again be on the road.

This time, the Trojans will be a little closer to home as they travel to Milan to take on the former-rival Bulldogs in the second scrimmage of the year.

The Trojans will wrap up the preseason at home when Dyersburg hosts the annual STAR Physical Therapy-West Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic High School Football Jamboree on Friday, Aug. 16 at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

Meanwhile, Dyer County returned to the field on Monday evening as the Choctaws scheduled late afternoon workouts this week.

Like the Trojans, the Choctaws will be slowly working towards the start of their scrimmage schedule on the first Friday in August. Dyer County will travel to Munford to face a former Class 5A rival in the Cougars on Friday, Aug. 2.

The following Friday, the Choctaws travel down to Jackson to take on Jackson Christian School in the team’s second scrimmage.

Dyer County rounds out the preseason when they travel over to Dyersburg to take part in the STAR Physical Therapy-West Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic High School Football Jamboree on Aug. 16.

Once the teams’ three preseason games are out of the way, the two teams will open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 23 when the Trojans travel to the Choctaws in Week 1 action in Newbern.
