Linda Whitby

Linda "Baby Duncan" Whitby, 89, left her earthy home on Monday June 10, 2024 after a lengthy illness at the Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Linda was born in Mayfield, KY daughter of the late Wilbur and Edith Gambol Duncan and lived most of her life in Crockett County, TN. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Bethesda Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday June 13, 2024 at Noon at the Friendship Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Drace officiating with burial in the Friendship Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Terry Harris (Cheryl), Friendship, TN, Jeffrey Harris (Cindy), Union

•City, TN, Jason Patrick Harris. Union City, TN; daughters, Karen Harris, Bells, TN,,Stacey Pence (Brad), Muscle Shoals, AL; brother, Larry Duncan, Atoka, TN; sister, Iris Deegan, Bells, TN; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded by sisters, Theda Cotton, Evelyn Oliver; brothers, Harold, Herbert, Gene Duncan and Douglass Cotten and one grandson Tyler Harris. Pallbearers serving will be Paul Oliver, Mike Oliver, Scott Nolen, Brad Pence, Briar Holt and John Camp. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time. Betty Lowery Swims

Betty Lowery Swims, 81, of Ashland City, TN, formerly of Jackson, TN, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Vantage Pointe Village Nursing Home.

Betty was born on September 4, 1942, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Floyd and Lucy Kate Pruitt Lowery. She was a 1960 graduate of Dyersburg High School and later that year on December 30, she married Gerald Swims and they moved to Memphis. In 1976, they moved back to Dyersburg and Betty started working for the County Court Clerk. Later she became the office manager for Dr. Bobby O. Cook until retirement. They attended Phillips Street Church of Christ.  After Betty retired, she and Gerald moved to Jackson, TN to enjoy their life, where they became members of North Jackson Church of Christ. She was known for her hospitality, entertaining and keeping a beautiful home. Betty was a wonderful cook, mother and grandmother.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Mr. Mark Johnston officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

The family received visitors from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Gerald Swims of Ashland City, TN; three sons, Greg Swims of Nashville, TN, Todd Swims (Missy) of Jackson, TN and Andy Swims (Melanie) of Olive Branch, MS; a sister, Patty Jeffries (Hollice) of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren, Anne-Ashley Fawcett (Ian), Adam Swims (Ashton), Aaron Swims (Molly), Barret Swims (Megan), Alexander Brock Swims, Weston Swims (Kaleigh) and Sydney Johnson (Cole); thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Doris Downing of Hornbeak, TN and Johnnie Swims of Bartlett, TN.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her three sisters, Imojene Butcher, Frances Slaughter and Dot Hollomon; and three brothers, James Lowery, Billy Ray Lowery and Ted Lowery.

Pallbearers were Ian Fawcett, Barret Swims, Adam Swims, Aaron Swims, Weston Swims and Brock Swims. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Hollomon and Cole Johnson.
