Jimmy Lee Giles

Jimmy Lee Giles, 77, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Monday June 3, 2024 at AHC Covington Care in Covington, TN.

Jimmy was born on June 11, 1946, in Mt. Moriah, MO, to the late Joseph William Giles and Lois Preston Giles. He was a parts manager for Chevrolet Dealerships for over 50 years, with 30 plus years being at Delta Auto Sales. Jimmy loved to square dance, fish and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Chatham officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Henning, TN.

The Giles Family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include his two sons, Michael Giles and wife, Heather, and Scott Giles and wife, Jennifer, all of Dyersburg, TN; a daughter, Sarah Wright and husband, Chris, of Halls, TN; a brother, Marvin Giles of Mt. Moriah, MO; two sisters, June Buntin of Clarksdale, MO and Sue Miller and husband, Steve, of Columbia, MO; and six grandchildren, Autumn Fussell and husband, Eric, of Flower Mound, TX, Nathan Giles, Kate Gibson, James Rainey and Erica Rainey, all of Dyersburg, TN and Caleb Wright of Halls, TN.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Giles; two brothers, Leslie Giles and George Giles; and three sisters, Carol Brickey, Joan Clayton and Betty Leiffring.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Giles, Hunter Long, Phillip Turner, Ricky Kerley, David Laton and Caleb Wright.

Memorials may be directed to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital or to St Jude Children’s Hospital.

Gary Howard Brainerd, Senior

Gary Howard Brainerd, Senior, formerly of La Porte, IN and Dyersburg, TN, passed away June

2, 2024, in Chattanooga, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Hazel

Brainerd, his brother Bernie Brainerd, his grandson Patrick Tubbs, and his former wife, Eileen

Brainerd.

Gary is survived by his four siblings, Dennis Brainerd of Indianapolis, IN, Terry (Linda) Brainerd

of La Porte, IN, Christine (Chris) Wiencken of McCordsville, IN, Kelly Brainerd of La Porte, IN;

his children Gary (Dana) Brainerd of Chattanooga, TN, Colleen Fleming (Sergio Castro) of

Clearwater, FL, Heather (Chris) Tipton of Benton, AR, and Paige (Mike) Dietrich of Nashville,

TN.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amber Sharp, Lea Brainerd, Walker Creighton, Lacy

Gray, Julianna Paige, Jacob Tipton, Drew Tipton, Perilee Baker, Nicholas Dietrich, Heather

Dietrich; and five great-grandchildren, Kinlee Sharp, Sumar Sharp, Nolan Cheshire, Parker

Gray, and Kingsten Tipton. His loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked up to Gary

as a guiding light. He was a devoted father, caring friend, and life of the party. If you know, you

know.

Gary was born in Texarkana, TX, July 28, 1943. He was raised in La Porte, IN, and graduated

from La Porte High School in 1962. He was a lifelong fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He

moved to Dyersburg and started his career as the shoe department manager at Schelsinger’s.

If there was one thing about Gary, he knew how to bring people together. He followed his dream

and opened Chequers Eatery and Social Gathering in the early 1980s in Downtown Dyersburg.

Chequers became a wildly popular destination for people all over West Tennessee, and Gary

was famous for his warm hospitality and cold Jagermeister. After Chequers, Gary worked for

Boss Hoss Cycles and got to enjoy “business” trips to Daytona Bike Week and Sturgis

Motorcycle Rally. He never lost his knack for running a restaurant and finished his career as the

manager of Neil’s Barbeque & Grill.

Gary was a lifelong member and past governor of The Moose Lodge. He also served on the

Dyersburg Planning Commission for more than 30 years. He loved playing pool, golf, dominoes,

backgammon, and anything else where he might win a few bucks from his friends.

A celebration of life will be held at The Foundry in Dyersburg, TN on Saturday, June 29 from

Allen  Ray Wells, Jr.

Allen  Ray "Butch" Wells, Jr., 57, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

A Celebration Of Life Service for Mr. Wells will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Bro. Dan Prescott. Visitation for Mr. Wells will be held from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Shirley Rose Hatch, 87, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at her residence in Dyersburg, Tennessee

Funeral services for Mrs. Hatch will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.  Officiating the service will be her family. Interment will follow at Rehoboth Cemetery in RoEllen, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
