Dyer County had an eventful year in 2023. And while the State Gazette reported many positive stories about the community, those about crime, accidents, and violence attracted the most readers.

In 2023, the State Gazette published “good news”: Dyer County celebrated its Bicentennial, new industry moved it, downtown areas were revitalized, the cities and counties received significant grants, and our schools had a mountain of successes. Our economy has continued to improve, and unemployment numbers are down. Many would agree that we live in a special place. But Dyer County, just as every other community in the world, has faced issues of crime, violence, inequality, and conflict.
