Dyersburg man sentenced to 20 years for second-degree murder

Demarius Watson, 26 of Dyersburg has been sentenced to a total of 20 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections for the murder of Johnnie Watson of Dyersburg. Danny Goodman, Jr., District Attorney General for the 29th Judicial District announced the sentence on July 19, 2023.

According to information presented in court, on July 7, 2019, Demarius Watson was at the home of his uncle Johnnie Watson when an altercation occurred and the victim was stabbed which led to his death.

Goodman said, “This was a tragic situation for the family as they had a relative who was the victim as well as a relative who was the defendant. We have zero tolerance for violent crime at the District Attorney’s Office and we will work diligently to take these violent offenders out of our community. I would personally like to thank the Dyersburg Police Department for the long hours investigating this crime to bring justice to the family.”

This case was investigated by the Dyersburg Police Department and was prosecuted by District Attorney General Goodman.
