Just a few days removed from snapping their season opening losing skid with a 2-2 tie against Lexington in the Jackson North Side Tournament this weekend, Dyer County got into the win column thanks to a four-goal performance from senior Anna Hampton in the Lady Choctaws' 7-2 win over Covington on Tuesday in Newbern.

“We've trying some new things out,” Dyer County Head Coach Stephen Goodman explained. “They've had this win coming. They've put in the work and it was just a matter of time.”

Dyer County got in the board just past the midway point of the first half with Hampton's first goal to give the Lady Choctaws a 1-0 lead at the 25th minute.

As time was set to expire in the half, the Lady Choctaws doubled their lead with a Peyton Murphy goal in the 40th minute to give Dyer County a 2-0 lead at the break.

The momentum firmly swung into the Lady Choctaws' favor in the second half as Hampton scored in the 42nd minute to push the lead to three goals.

Just two minutes later, the senior completed the hat trick with a goal in the 44th minute to push the Lady Choctaw lead to 4-0.

Freshman Ava Pearson got into the scoring in the 49th minute with a goal to push Dyer County's advantage to 5-0.

Ten minutes later, Lennon Brooks punched one in to push the Lady Choctaw lead to six goals in the 59th minute.

Covington was able to sneak two goals in late before Hampton added her fourth goal in the 78th minute to round out the scoring.

“This is just the turning of the tides,” Goodman added. “It just takes a little while for things to start clicking.

“We are going to have to keep the momentum churning and not let off the gas now.”

Dyer County returns to action at noon on Saturday when the Lady Choctaws host Obion County Central in District 13AA action.

“Super-proud of these girls,” Goodman said. “These young ladies have put the work in. They've had it coming and they deserve it.”
