DOT Foods General Manager Matt Duggan stated, “We are passionate about raising money for Alzheimer’s due to the loss of our founder, R.T. Tracy, back in 2006. We have some great community partners that have participated in this event for the past nine years. We are so thankful for the support of the Dyersburg community.”

During the event, Duggan told the trivia players, “Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.”

Duggan explained, “Every dollar that is raised in the community is matched by DOT.” Speaking of DOT’s history of fundraising for the association, Duggan continued, “It started in 2015. In 2023, we raised $21,000.” He said that this year, “Employees donated over $6,000.” Additionally, local individuals and companies gave generously, and with DOT’s matching funds, they raised a record setting $26,000.

Since the beginning, he noted, “Dyersburg has raised $141,000.” He stated that company-wide, DOT has donated almost $500,000. This year, he said, Dyersburg ranks number two in DOT’s giving campaign, second only to company headquarters.

Development Coordinator for West Tennessee Alzheimer’s Association Don Schwartz told attendees, “New treatments…are slowing down the progression of early set Alzheimer’s.”

He said, “It’s an exciting time. It shows that events like tonight are making a difference. Obviously the more money we raise, the more research we can fund.”

However, he cautioned, “There are more deaths from Alzheimer’s than from dementia, breast cancer, and prostate cancer combined.” The Association estimates that around seven million Americans suffer from the disease. He concluded, “We are really appreciative of DOT and what’s going on here.”

The evening was also an evening of fun as trivia contestants vied for the top prize trophy. The questions were challenging, and included a wide-variety of trivia: “What U.S. senator, asked how many inaugurations he’d been to, said, “All of them?”; “How many sides does a ring have in Ultimate Fighting Championship bout?”

After eight rounds of questions and a final bet nothing-all questions, representatives from Lannom Coronado Haight law firm won first place, with Dyersburg State Community College coming in second.
