Countdown to the American Revolution Experience

The countdown has begun to the opening of the award-winning “American Revolution Experience” traveling exhibit. The week of July 15-19 will see the exhibit leave its current location in Pennsylvania and begin the journey to Tennessee.

July 22 at 8:00 a.m. is the official first day of the exhibit, with a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Dyer County Chamber of Commerce scheduled for Tuesday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m.

Key Corner Chapter NSDAR has planned a multitude of activities and events in conjunction with the run of the exhibit from July 22 – August 16 including:

July 25 – “A Revolutionary Continental Breakfast for Veterans” 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Military Veterans are invited to join Key Corner Daughters for breakfast and a tour of the exhibit.

July 30 – “A Revolutionary Experience – Living History Day” 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

What was daily life like during the Colonial Era? How did our ancestors live and work during the years of the American Revolution? Join Key Corner and a host of re-enactors and craftspeople as the skills and stories of the 18th century are shared. From the “Language of the Fan” and “Washington’s Spies” to a look at a real frontiersman, there will be something for all ages and interests. Please note, children must be accompanied by an adult.

August 5, 6 and 7 – “What is Your American Heritage?”

Members of the Genealogy Society will be available to assist you in the search for your American heritage. Computers will be available to help you in your search or you are welcome to bring your laptop or tablet.

Tuesday, August 13 – “In Their Words…Stories from Women Who Served.” 1:00 p.m.

Women patriots made a huge contribution to the American Revolution. Join them as they share their personal stories.

Wednesday, August 14 – “Battlefields of the Revolution” 1:00 p.m.

Join Dyersburg resident Matthew Stafford as he speaks about the southern battlefields that impacted the American Revolution.

The “American Revolution Experience” and all additional activities are available free of charge. The exhibit, which features display panels and interactive digital kiosks that use storytelling, illustration, technology, and unique artifacts and primary accounts to connect modern audiences with the people and places that shaped the birth of our nation, is available during the regularly scheduled hours, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the Learning Resource Center, Dyersburg State Community College, 1510 Lake Road, Dyersburg, TN.
